Safety couplings for indirect drives
For overload limitation or as collision protection for indirect drives, JAKOB offers a wide range of series with integrated, robust deep groove ball bearings or plain bearings for high bearing forces.
Properties:
- Torque-limiting – adjustable – backlash-free
- Parallel drive via toothed belt pulleys, toothed or chain wheels or for other attachments such as flanges
- compact
- High concentricity
- for high bearing forces

Safety couplings for direct drives
Safety couplings for direct drives are a combination of a safety element for overload limitation and a coupling attachment to compensate for misalignment between the input and output shafts. Various series with metal bellows or elastomer coupling attachment can be selected from an extensive range.
Properties:
- Torque-limiting – adjustable – backlash-free
- Coaxial shaft-shaft drive
- Offset compensating
- Torsionally rigid metal bellows coupling attachment
- Vibration-damping elastomer coupling attachment

Safety Couplings
Also torque limiter, slipping coupling or overload limiter
Safety couplings effectively protect your drive from costly damage due to overload in the event of collisions. They are the result of decades of experience with countless applications that are covered by the proven JAKOB modular system. Our safety couplings are primarily used in demanding drives in mechanical engineering, from the protection of highly dynamic servo axes in machine tools to the overload protection of conveyor systems.
Safety couplings from JAKOB Antriebstechnik are available both for indirect drives (connection via pulley or gears, for example) and for direct drives (connection via a combination of safety part and proven JAKOB servo coupling). Torque limiters for direct drives combine the reliable disengagement behavior of the safety part with the specific advantages of metal bellows couplings (torsional stiffness, all-metal design, high operating temperatures) or elastomer couplings (vibration-damping, pluggable, insulating, up to 120°C)
At the same time, they ensure backlash-free, precise torque transmission with minimal moments of inertia. Different series are available depending on the application. Potential users of our couplings should therefore not hesitate to take advantage of our technical advice.
The user can freely set the torque at which the torque limiter disengages and thus interrupts the drive train without delay within the setting range of the respective size and series. The safety coupling slips when the residual torque is low until the cause of the collision or overload has been eliminated and then engages again automatically. Status monitoring by means of a proximity switch is possible.

Depending on the application, you can also choose between different operating safety parts. For applications with high operating speeds (e.g. test benches) or long overrun times (no immediate stop possible), it may be necessary to replace the re-engagement mechanism with a disengagement mechanism. In this case, the coupling does not re-engage automatically, but must be re-engaged manually. JAKOB offers various solutions for this.
In working environments where heavy soiling plays a role, the SKB, SKY, SKX-L or SKW series should be used, as the detent mechanism is protected against the ingress of dirt particles and the washing out of lubricants by a labyrinth seal. SKY series couplings are best suited for high speeds.
